About the project
We built a nationwide DOOH campaign for the Nestlé Drumstick x Stranger Things collaboration, deployed across 38 screens in Malaysia through WOW Media, OM, and Omnia networks.
The brief was specific: launch a limited-edition product tied to one of the most visually distinctive series on television — and make both things true at once. The ice cream had to look real enough to crave. The Stranger Things world had to feel accurate enough to recognise. Neither brief was negotiable.
The Drumstick cone cracks open with Houdini shatter simulation. Berry sauce moves with viscosity. Chocolate drips with weight. Behind it, the portal opens — built in Unreal Engine, matched to the series' exact visual grammar. The Demogorgon emerges into the same frame as the product. Volumetric lighting bridges the two worlds. The tagline lands: "Enjoy A Taste From Another Dimension."

Key Visual
High-Detail Texture and Product Breakdown
The hero sequence puts the product and the portal in the same frame and holds them there. Hyper-realistic Drumstick CGI — cone texture, ice cream surface, thick berry sauce, chocolate drip — set against the Upside Down rendered with series accuracy. The Demogorgon frames the product rather than competing with it. Horror and appetite appeal in one shot.

Product Realism and Series Accuracy
Cone shatter built in Houdini with natural imperfections. Sauce viscosity and chocolate drip behaviour developed for food-grade realism. Portal recreation built in Unreal Engine against the Netflix visual reference. Lighting consistency maintained across product, creature, and environment throughout. Multiple aspect ratios delivered for 38 screens across different billboard formats — 15-second master, 16:9, 9:16, and social cutdowns.

Process
Design and Animation Process
We began with the series. Stranger Things has a specific visual identity — atmospheric density, colour temperature, the exact quality of light the portal produces. That was documented and locked before any asset was built. Then the product development ran in parallel — surfacing, simulation, shatter dynamics. The two worlds were composited together only once both were technically solid on their own. The standard at every stage: make the food look worth eating and the horror look worth believing.
